Track Flags

As with all PCA Driver Education and Club Racing events, Nord Stern utilizes the same flag communications with drivers when they are on the track.  The flags described here may have a slightly different definition based on the track and corner worker operations.

Yellow (Stationary)

Slow Down.  There is some type of incident ahead.  NO PASSING is allowed until past the next manned flag station that is not displaying a yellow flag.  A standing yellow generally means to proceed with caution and don’t pass.  Nord Stern runs the first lap of the day under a standing yellow to allow drivers to identify manned flag stations.

Yellow (Waving)

Identifies a more serious situation ahead.  Slow Down and be prepared to stop or take evasive maneuvers after rounding the corner.   NO PASSING is allowed.  Note that the car behind you may not have seen the yellow flag so remain predictable.

Green

In HPDE events the green flag typically isn’t used as the lack of a yellow flag at a corner station is the indication that the track is open for passing according to event policies the require contract passing and only in designated areas.
