ClubTalk
Frequently Asked Questions
ClubTalk is fairly robust, but it can be tricky at times. Browse the FAQ or, if you don’t find something that addresses your issue, feel free to ask a question.
Clubtalk on Google Groups
ClubTalk now operates entirely on the Google Groups platform, which offers two main ways to interact with the service and manage your subscription: the Email Interface and the Web Interface.
- Email Interface (Day-to-Day Use): Most of your daily interaction with ClubTalk will happen via the email address you registered. This includes sending messages to the group at
clubtalk@nordstern.organd receiving discussion emails directly in your inbox. - Web Interface (Managing Options): The web interface is used to manage your subscription options (like switching to daily digests, pausing emails, or viewing the archive). The web interface is generally the easiest way to update settings, as it provides a clear, guided view of your preferences and past messages.

ClubTalk Etiquette
- Think before you send. There are hundreds of members on the server and most of them don’t know you. Give some thought to whether your email adds value to the discussion or informs in some way.
- Sign your post as many email addresses don’t identify the member.
- Once you hit send, you no longer know where the email will go and who may read it.
- Many of our advertisers and our dealers subscribe. Show support for those who support the club.
- There are other forums for politics.
- Use care with what you think is funny. There is a fine line between what is funny and what is offensive or just plain stupid. Humor is fun and welcome if well-considered. See #1.
- Use a good subject line so someone not interested in your email can delete it without opening it. This is important on lengthy email threads on a subject someone may not be interested in.
- For sale posts are ok if it is something this audience is interested in. Giving ClubTalk subscribers first crack at your two-year-old Cayman GT4 before you list it elsewhere is appropriate. Same applies to your winter beater. Your Mason jar collection maybe not. Be considerate when you think about sending it multiple times.
- Use care in using Clubtalk as a phone book. Keep in mind you are emailing hundreds of people asking for someone’s phone number. Same for asking one person in the group to call you.
- Watch the size of photos. Keep in mind your post is likely to be read on a phone. Clubtalk does not send emails larger than 8 GB. They go into a queue for the administrator to release if they are too large.
- See #1.
Adjusting Delivery Frequency
If you only want to temporarily stop receiving emails while still keeping your membership and access to the archives, you can easily pause delivery:
-
- Go to:
https://groups.google.com - Sign in with your Google account (use the email address where you receive Clubtalk messages).
- Click the group name (Clubtalk), then click “My membership settings.”
- Under the Subscription dropdown menu, select your preferred delivery option (e.g., “Send daily digests” or “Don’t send email updates“) and click Save changes.
- Go to:
How to Post a Message
Posting a message for all ClubTalk subscribers to see is as simple as sending an email message to clubtalk@nordstern.org.
If the email address you are sending from is currently subscribed to the ClubTalk Google Group, your message will be automatically distributed and delivered to all other subscribers.
Why Was My Message Rejected?
Did you receive a rejection notice? This usually happens if you tried to post your message from an email address that is not currently subscribed to the ClubTalk Google Group.
Only subscribed and approved email addresses are permitted to post messages to ClubTalk. This is the main security measure to prevent spam.
How to Fix It:
If you want to post from a different email address, you must subscribe that address to the ClubTalk group first. You have two ways to do this:
-
- Web Interface: Head over to the subscription page on Google Groups and subscribe the new email address.
- Email: Send an email from the desired account to the correct Google Groups subscription address:
clubtalk+subscribe@nordstern.org.
ClubTalk: Discussion Guidelines
ClubTalk is an electronic mailing list (now powered by Google Groups) that forwards posts to every subscriber, serving as the Club’s town hall-like discussion forum.
Topics range broadly from anything Porsche-related to DIY projects and member recommendations.
To maintain a positive and productive environment for all members, we ask that you refrain from engaging in political discussions or intentionally starting controversial subjects.
